‘BOTANICA’ AND ‘EQUINE TOUCH IRELAND’ N I YOUNG EVENT HORSE
The 2010 Northern Ireland Young Event Horse competition at Laurel View Equestrian Centre received an entry of some quality horses. Horses were assessed on the flat by Joan Adrain, in hand for conformation and movement by Sam and Sheila McAteer and over show jump and cross country fences by Sonya Rowe. Fourteen came forward for the four year old class. The top score in this section was achieved by Beth Armstrong’s ‘Clover Echo’ gelding ‘ Orchard Affair’ ridden by Erin Faloona, with Sandra Hamilton’s and Dr Janet Hall’s ‘Diamond Discovery’ gelding ‘Discovered’ ridden to a close second by Lisa Dundee. Julie Henderson teamed up with Harry Harper’s ‘Gareeb’ mare ‘Ruby’ to win the five year old class from Sarah Sproule on Amanda Sproule’s ‘Combe Magna’. Joanne Jarden produced the winner of the six year old section with Kerri McWilliam’s ‘Shekan Ping’ a chestnut mare by ‘Drumahowan Gold’, with Christine Newton owned and ridden ‘Rich Rebel’ gelding ‘Runaway Rebel’ taking second place. The pony section was won by Nichola Wray’s ‘Derrigragh Robin’ gelding ‘Holiday Chase’ partnered by sister Holly,and runner up was Angela Brashaw’s ‘Arabian Night’ with daughter Sarah in the saddle. Class winners were awarded rugs and a ‘Botanica’ hamper, while runner up in each class received a voucher for an Equine Touch session. The top two horses in each class went forward to the Championship where four year old ‘Orchard Affair’ followed in the footsteps of full brother ‘ Orchard County’ who claimed the title last year. Reserve Champion went to five year old winner ‘Ruby’. Many thanks to the Future Event Horse League for the use of the flatwork test and to sponsors Sean Cooney of ‘Botanica’ and Heather McReynolds of ‘ Equine Touch Ireland’ for their continued support. Thanks also to Colemans Templepatrick for supplying the greenery to dress the course so effectively.

Longford to Laurel View
The cross country playground at Laurel View has been proving very popular over the summer months with one competitor, Jordan Kilkenny coming all the way from Longford to Laurel View to win the 85cm Derby class on Sunday 8th August.
Living up to its name in the 60cm class was Gold Lightening and Victoria Graham winning the class and the league, leaving Nicky Nesbitt and Sunday in second place.
Bring me the Horizon and Natasha Wylie put in the top performance with the only clear round in the 70cm class. Alison Larkham and Flick secured second after a jump off. Both took home their league prizes also.
The 85cm class was fiercely competitive with Mr Big and Jordan Kilkenny putting in a very speedy performance to take first on the day. But it was Susie Megahey and Marco that took home first in the league.
Chris Megahey and Sugar Supreme rode a smashing clear round to take the red rosette on the day. Shelley Boyle and Elvis did not leave the course until they won 2nd on the day and 1st in the league.
The speed of some of the competitors kept the Equi-Tog photographer on his toes trying to catch them in action.

The second leg of the Laurel View Derby League took place on Sunday 25th July. This time ground conditions availed of the use of the purpose built course which includes banks, ditches and a water jump. Some good performances were seen, notably in the jump off for places which was timed over a shortened course to test riders’ skills.

Amour comes first at Laurel View
Sunday 16th May was the first competition of the Summer Dressage League at Laurel View, with a great turnout of competitors at all levels that bodes well for the league.
Laurel Faloona got the judging underway with the walk/trot test which is growing in popularity, with a healthy degree of competition between the Laurel View riding school pupils. Lauren Gordon and Spud took the first for this class, with Sophie Winn a very close second on Laurel View Paddy.
Kerry McWilliams on Sonnie Day, pipped Pippa and Abigayle Gill to the post in the Newcomer class judged by Brenda Cull.
David Patterson, was in residence in the new judges box as he cast his expert eye over the Prelim 7 tests to score Carolyn Avery and Rakish Pride top of the class, with Erin Coulson and Temple Somero riding into second place.
Lisa Dundee and Amour came out on top in the Prelim 10 class while Southpark and Janine Gamble earned themselves second place.
Amour and Lisa Dundee also claimed the top spot in the Novice 25 class, particularly pleasing as it was Amours first Novice test. Lisa also managed to take home the second rosette for her performance on Discovered.
Allan Dewhurst rid the Novice 35 test on Isaac to earn the percentage which took first place in the Open Class. The 2nd rosette was won by Claire Sedgeman on Questhill Fantasy for their Elementary 43 test performance.

Prince takes top Prize at Laurel View League
Wednesday 21st April was the conclusion of the Spring Unregistered League at Laurel View Equestrian Centre. The number of competitors has been better, but the calibre was high none the less.
The first winner of the evening was Ashley Byrne riding Prince, who also secured the league prize for the 50cm class.
In the 60cm class and league it was Chloe Steele with a lovely clear round on Ron that secured the red rosettes.
Zena Martin and Mason were the winning combination in both the 70cm class and league with another super double clear.
Miss Bella did not miss any of the 80cm jumps to allow rider Louise Irvine to take home the winnings for the league.
Tom McNally and Skylight came out on top of the 90cm class. The jumping continues on Wednesday evenings at Laurel View with training evenings on the 28th April and 5th May before the Summer Unregistered League starts on 12th May.
